Bhamaha’s Contribution to the Science of Poetics

 Bhamaha was a poet of Sanskrit language and is considered as one of the best poet laureate that India has ever produced. When we study the entire poetics that appeared and subsequently developed in Indian sub-continent it is unthinkable to overlook the contribution of Bhamaha to subject. This paper would help us to understand the perspective of the writings of the concerned poet and his outlook on the Indian poetry in general. His most famous work available to us is Kavyalankara which helps scholars and interested laymen to understand the basics of poetry. The paper also argues that he was among the first Indian poet to introduce the concept of literary criticism.
