This paper examines the role of peace-culture in the attainment of nation-building for sustainable development in Nigeria. It sees the need for the adoption of a culture of peace as effective strategy to issues with national interests. Peace-culture is the ability and willingness by rational human beings to seek for and maintain peace over time and space in every aspect of human life. The paper noted that there is no alternative to peace as an approach for nature and man to co-exist in productive harmony. Besides, no nation can develop and progress in the absence of peace especially in a pluralistic Nigerian state with numerous culturally diversed ethnic nationalities. In essence, it sees environmental peace as not a state of perfect rest especially with of natural and man-induced changes and transformations; but one driven by capitalist socio-economic development and conflicts with peculiar topographic irregularities/rugged terrain that must be appreciated using environmentally friendly technologies in resource exploitation to sustain local and national economic environmental peace performance index on past and present government development programmes, including those of the organized private sector. Thus, it recommends among others immediate establishment of the National Environmental Peace Performance Index for all issues relating to man-environment relationships, immediate review of all existing laws regulating oil and gas development in Nigeria, adoption of E.I.A. policies for all development projects and must be people-centred and participatory, provision of adequate basic amenities across the country, strict measures for environmental polluters with adequate compensation to pollution victims and capacity-building strategy for adequate security network services in Nigeria.
