Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies have garnered increasing attention in the field of education due to their potential to transform the learning experience. This review aims to explore the educational applications of VR and AR, summarizing the existing research and highlighting their impact on pedagogy. VR immerses users in computer-generated environments, offering a profound sense of presence. AR, on the other hand, overlays digital content onto the real world. Both technologies have been used to enhance traditional teaching methods and create entirely new learning paradigms. Research indicates that VR and AR can improve knowledge retention by providing immersive, interactive, and memorable experiences. They cater to diverse learning styles and offer a hands-on approach to education, making abstract concepts more tangible. They enable remote and collaborative learning, bridging geographical gaps. Challenges exist, including the cost of hardware and content creation. Ethical concerns about data privacy and the potential for addiction in immersive environments also need addressing. VR and AR hold great promise for education, offering engaging, effective, and innovative tools for both traditional and remote learning. As technology continues to advance, it is essential for educators, policymakers, and researchers to collaboratively explore and harness the full potential of these immersive technologies in education.
