Abstract
The integration of indigenous wisdom, particularly Bhartiya Knowledge Systems (BKS), into higher education has emerged as a transformative endeavor aimed at fostering a more inclusive, holistic, and culturally responsive approach to learning. This paper explores the theoretical foundations, practical applications, challenges, and opportunities associated with integrating BKS into contemporary higher education contexts. The study began with an extensive literature review to explore existing research and scholarly works related to the integration of indigenous wisdom, specifically Bhartiya Knowledge Systems (BKS), in higher education. The reviews encompassed academic journals, books, reports, and other relevant publications to provide a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical frameworks, practical applications, challenges, and opportunities associated with integrating BKS into educational contexts. Drawing upon a multidisciplinary methodology encompassing literature review, case studies, stakeholder perspectives, and policy analysis, the study investigates key strategies, pedagogical approaches, and institutional factors contributing to the successful integration of BKS. Through the lens of decolonization, cultural diversity, and sustainability, the study highlights the relevance of BKS in addressing pressing global challenges and nurturing ethical leadership among students and educators. By synthesizing findings from diverse sources, the study offers recommendations for policymakers, institutional leaders, educators, and other stakeholders interested in promoting the integration of BKS in higher education, ultimately envisioning a future where indigenous wisdom enriches educational environments and contributes to the flourishing of individuals and communities worldwide.
