Abstract

This study analyzes the use of hedges in the 2019 movie Aladdin. The data was collected from various scenes and characters, ensuring a range of speech situations and interactions. Fraser’s classification of hedges was used as the analytical framework, providing a structured approach to identifying and categorizing the different types of hedging expressions. The analysis reveals that hedges are widely and strategically used throughout the movie, emphasizing their significance as a common linguistic feature in media discourse. They appear in both casual and serious conversations, reflecting how characters manage politeness, express uncertainty, or avoid directness. The study highlights that hedges serve multiple communicative purposes, making them a flexible tool for conveying different perspectives, intentions, and social dynamics.
