Abstract
The concept of sustainable development is becoming increasingly important in both academic discourse and public policy. A deeper understanding of its essence, distinctive features, and the conditions necessary for its emergence requires a comprehensive examination of the stages of its evolution. The development of this concept has been shaped by the gradual recognition of economic, social, and environmental challenges that directly affect the quality of life of the world’s population. This article systematizes the approaches of domestic and foreign scholars to the evolution of the concept of sustainable development, offers the author’s interpretation of its periodization, and reveals the significance of this concept for the elaboration of sustainable development strategies at the enterprise level.
