Somatic phraseology contributes to the formations of the field of lexicology by giving way to the study of the relationship of language to the human body. By examining the somatic phrases and expressions, lexicologists can learn more about bodies: how they are understood, how they are represented. But this expands our understanding of what cultural and social attitudes toward the body; at the same time, it unearths those cognitive processes that come to bear on both language production and comprehension. In this paper, we attempt to examine how somatic phraseology impacts lexicology and it’s implications on the way we look at human cognition and communication.
