Abstract
The widespread adoption of digital payment systems in both advanced and developing financial markets has transformed the operational logic of modern banking. This article examines how digital payment infrastructures influence the banking sector through three interrelated dimensions: security, transaction speed, and cost efficiency. Drawing on empirical evidence from global payment ecosystems, regulatory frameworks, cybersecurity studies, and cross-country banking practices, the analysis identifies the mechanisms by which digital payments reshape risk management, liquidity dynamics, and operational expenditures within financial institutions. The findings reveal that digital payment systems enhance competitiveness, expand financial access, and reduce transaction frictions, but they also introduce systemic vulnerabilities, necessitate substantial technological investment, and demand new regulatory paradigms. By integrating theoretical frameworks with comparative practical insights, the article offers a comprehensive exploration of digital payments’ multifaceted impact on banks.
