Roles of Guidance and Counselling in the Implementation of Career Services Programme in the Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria

This paper explores the roles of Guidance and Counselling in the implementation of career services programme in the tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The paper employed the use of secondary data which were collected from both online and print publications. The study revealed that career awareness and information dissemination, career assessment and self-discovery educational guidance and planning, decision-making and goal setting, skill development and employability training, psychosocial support and adjustment counselling; linkages with industry and professional bodies, support for special populations and follow-up and career monitoring are the roles of guidance and counselling in the implementation of career services in the tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Based on the findings, the paper suggests that professional Guidance and Counsellors should be fully involve in the implementation of career services programme in the tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
