Abstract

Considering the current growing pressures of business environment, especially the Iraqi industrial sector, the surge of accounting systems, which are capable of dealing with the issue of financial fraud, is on the rise. This study will discuss how smart accounting can be applied to identify financial fraud by utilizing artificial intelligence methods by considering the connection between the dimensions of smart accounting including the automation of accounting processes, intelligent data analysis, and the quality of accounting information and how they may be utilized to forge better internal control systems and fraudulent practices. The researcher used a descriptive-analytical research methodology and adopted a questionnaire that was distributed to a sample of 70 participants in the Iraqi industrial sector. The results obtained indicated that the implementation of smart accounting had strong and statistically significant correlations with the detection of financial fraud, which demonstrates the positive value of smart technologies to enhance the quality of financial reporting and help to maintain the institutional transparency and sustainability. The study also outlined a number of suggestions that can be made to help improve the efficiency of smart accounting in the Iraqi context, the most evident being the establishment of technological facilities and educating accounting specialists in artificial intelligence systems.
