Abstract
This article summarizes data on the relationship between Tourette Syndrome (TS) and suicidal manifestations in order to identify clinical predictors and determine the practical relevance of the results for suicide prevention among this group of patients. The literature review used data from national registers (e.g., the Swedish study by Fernández de la Cruz et al.), clinical case series, and publications from international journals such as Biological Psychiatry, Movement Disorders, and Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews. Searches were conducted in databases like PubMed, Google Scholar, PMC, and ResearchGate. The analysis included data from 7,736 patients with TS and chronic tic disorders and showed that the risk of death by suicide in this group is 3–4 times higher than in the general population. Persistent tics in adulthood, a history of suicide attempts, and comorbid psychiatric disorders (depression, anxiety, OCD) were identified as key predictors of suicide risk. The results emphasize the need for regular monitoring of mental status and suicidal ideation, as well as the development of comprehensive intervention programs to improve the quality of life for patients with TS.
