Abstract
This study adopted a surveys research style. The research population comprises of students, staff of works department and physical planning units in Nnamdi Azikiwe Univeristy Awka. cluster sampling technique was adopted for the study. The instrument used was a structured questionnaire. To ensure the validity of data collection instrument, the questionnaires was submitted to the researchers supervisor who assessed the content and structure. The test for reliability of the instrument was done using the Cronbach’s Alpha. The study showed that replacing or updating parts of buildings/facilities with a higher efficient and durable materials ranked 1st as the most acceptable way of adopting sustainability strategies for building/facilities maintenance practices in Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. It was concluded that adopting sustainability strategies in building maintenance within the study area is essential for reducing environmental impact and enhancing operational efficiency. Key practices include using eco-friendly materials, improving energy efficiency through smart systems, conserving water with low-flow fixtures, and implementing effective waste reduction programs. One of the recommendations made was that institutions should adopt the sustainability strategies through replacing or updating parts of buildings/ facilities with higher efficient and durable materials; and performing scheduled maintenance.
