Abstract

The article analyzes the legal aspects of ensuring access to clean water and sanitation for the population, which is one of the main goals set by the UN Sustainable Development Program. The author examined the primary environmental issues in this sector based on statistical data and cited key international documents related to their resolution. The article also provided legal definitions for concepts such as "drinking water," "clean drinking water," "quality drinking water," and "necessary amount of drinking water." It analyzes the state of water legislation in the Republic of Uzbekistan, the regime of water protection zones, water consumption and usage rights, and the current legal framework for groundwater utilization. As a doctrinal study, this article includes an analysis of international documents, national legal texts, scientific-legal sources, and theoretical works. It examines the field's scientific concepts, as well as the views, conclusions, and opinions of theoretical scholars. The article begins by investigating the main cases related to the topic, proceeds to develop scientific and theoretical concepts, and concludes by proposing suggestions for legislative improvements to address existing problems.
