Abstract

This study examines the impact of the Middle East crisis, with particular focus on Iran, on the implementation of science education in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The persistent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have triggered global economic disruptions, especially in oil markets, leading to inflationary pressures, exchange rate instability, and increased cost of living in oil-dependent economies such as Nigeria. These macroeconomic challenges have had far-reaching implications for the education sector, particularly science education, which is resource-intensive and highly dependent on stable funding, infrastructure, and global collaboration. Drawing on evidence from both local and international sources, the study identifies key areas of impact, including reduced funding for tertiary institutions, rising cost of laboratory equipment, energy supply challenges, decline in research opportunities, and increased financial burden on students and academic staff. The paper concludes that the Middle East crisis has significantly constrained the effective implementation of science education in Nigeria and calls for strategic interventions to mitigate its adverse effects.
