Abstract

The management of regional song copyright royalties is an important aspect in preserving culture and increasing the income of local creators. In the modern music industry, copyright and royalty management are the key concerns of industry players and music enthusiasts. However, issues often arise regarding the management of Gorontalo regional song copyrights, particularly in terms of collection, aggregation, and distribution of royalties. Most musicians and songwriters from Gorontalo lost their economic rights, indicating that the management of regional song copyright royalties fell short of expectations. The purpose of this writing is to outline the mechanism of managing song royalties for commercial purposes based on Law Number. 20 of 2014 concerning Copyright and Government Regulation Number. 56 of 2021 concerning the Management of Copyright Royalties of Songs and/or Music. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The results of this study indicate that Gorontalo regional song creators have not registered their copyright for their works and do not fully understand how to manage song copyright royalties for commercial purposes.
