Abstract
This article explores the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in writing assessment within educational contexts. Writing has traditionally been assessed by teachers, who bring human judgment, sensitivity, and creativity to the task. However, advances in AI have created new opportunities for faster, more objective, and data-driven assessment. This study investigates how AI tools are used to evaluate student writing, their effectiveness in providing feedback, and the challenges of integrating them into classroom practice. A qualitative review of recent studies and case reports suggests that AI assessment offers efficiency and consistency but falls short in evaluating creativity and cultural appropriateness. The article argues for a blended approach where AI complements rather than replaces human teachers.
