Abstract

This paper discussed the adoption of clean energy in Nigerian tertiary institutions for sustainable development. Depending on secondary data obtained from recognized online and print resources. The paper concluded that the various clean energy technologies available include; solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy, hydroelectric energy and geothermal energy for deployment in the various tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The paper also noted that clean energy adoption by tertiary institutions in Nigeria will enhance environmental sustainability, cost efficiency, energy security and reliability, educational and research opportunities and contribution to national sustainable development. Based on these findings, the paper recommends that government, private institutions and tertiary institutions should jointly invest in renewable energy infrastructure, develop policy and regulatory frameworks, capacity building and training, promote research and innovation in clean energy, encourage community and stakeholder engagement, implement energy efficiency measures, explore funding and incentive mechanisms and monitor and evaluate impact
