Abstract
Roblox was an online game platform and creation system that allowed users to program, create, and play millions of 3D games. Roblox provided a safe and engaging space for exploration and experimentation, promoting learning and socialization. However, there were risks associated with the platform, such as exposure to inappropriate content, online predators, addiction, and in-game purchases. Additionally, users could become addicted to the platform, spending excessive amounts of time playing games and neglecting other responsibilities, which could negatively affect their mental health and well-being. This study sought to gain a comprehensive understanding of the influence of Roblox on the daily lives of senior high school students, including the risks and benefits associated with the game. The researchers used a phenomenological design to explore the experiences, perceptions, and beliefs of 20 senior high school students from Dr. Carlos S. Lanting College for the school year 2022-2023. They used the Purposive Sampling Method to collect data using survey questionnaires containing open-ended questions. Thematic analysis was used to further discuss the perspectives of senior high school students at DCLC on the benefits and risks of playing Roblox. The thematic analysis produced six (4) master themes, "Developing Personal Skills" with three (3) codes, with "Positive Influence" with four (4) codes, "Negative Influence and Online Safety" with six (6) codes, and "Responsible Gaming" with one (1) code. A description of the themes and related codes was presented in the paper. In conclusion, the perceptions of benefits and risks associated with Roblox among senior high school students revealed positive and negative influence. Overall, playing online games could be a fun and engaging activity, but it was important to balance it with other aspects of life and take precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Hence, students may focus on playing games in Roblox that can primarily enhance their creativity, teamwork, social skills, and decision-making skills.
