Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) in the development of staff training in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Method: The paper is a review study. The paper depends on secondary data that were collected from government documents, print resources and online publications. Content analysis was used to narrow the literature to the theme of the study.
Findings: The paper discovered that since the inception of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) in Nigeria, the fund has positively transformed the training programme of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The fund has specifically, trained academic staff in both local and international institutions. Therefore, the fund has assisted in the development of tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Recommendations: The government should increase the funding of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and the fund should increase allocation to staff training programmes in the various tertiary institutions across the country.
