Abstract

This article examines the role and practical application of geographic information systems (GIS) in the fields of transport and urban planning. Unlike traditional modeling approaches, most modern transport and urban planning models are created on the basis of geoinformation systems. The classification, structural and functional capabilities of GIS are analyzed in detail. The advantages of GIS technologies in the processes of management, design, monitoring, and optimization of transport systems are also highlighted. The article emphasizes the role of transport GIS in real practice, user groups, and areas of application.
