Abstract
Effective lesson planning is a central component of English language teaching guiding teachers in structuring instruction, setting measurable learning objectives, and aligning classroom activities with communicative goals. This article presents a comprehensive examination of lesson planning methods, the formulation of SWBAT-based learning objectives, and the organization of lesson stages within communicative frameworks. Drawing on contemporary ELT research, instructional design theories, and reflective teaching models, the paper highlights how structured planning improves pedagogical coherence, enhances student engagement, and supports the development of communicative competence. A particular focus is placed on the Plan–Teach–Reflect–Adjust cycle as a practical framework for continuous improvement. The article also discusses cognitive considerations, teacher decision-making, and the evolving role of digital tools in lesson planning. Implications for teacher professionalism and future research directions are provided.
