Abstract
Clarity in terminology is fundamental to any scholarly discipline, particularly in Islamic studies, where theological and legal discussions rely heavily on precise meanings. This article explores the distinctions between three closely related categories: concept, notion, and term. Although often used interchangeably, these categories operate at different analytical levels. By applying theoretical and semantic analysis to selected examples from Islamic theology and jurisprudence, this study argues that a concept represents a comprehensive theoretical framework, a notion refers to the cognitive content of meaning, and a term is the linguistic expression used to convey that meaning. Clarifying these distinctions contributes to greater methodological rigor in Islamic scholarship.
