Abstract

This study provides data on the ovarian dimensions of domestic female donkeys (Equus asinus) during the ovulatory season (May to July) in Iraq's hot summer. While previous research on equine ovarian dimensions exists, there is limited data specific to donkeys in extreme climates, revealing a knowledge gap. The research aimed to measure the length, width, and weight of the ovaries in seven adult donkeys undergoing left flank unilateral ovariectomy. Results indicated mean dimensions of 30.30 mm in length, 23.70 mm in width, and 12.48 g in weight. These values were lower than those reported in earlier studies, suggesting that high summer temperatures may affect ovarian size. This data contributes to understanding reproductive adaptations in donkeys under harsh environmental conditions.
