Abstract
In “Fahrenheit” Bradbury’s work is not only a dystopian novel but also a linguistically rich work that offers challenges and opportunities for translation. The stylistic peculiarity of Bradbury’s work can be found in its metaphorical language, innovative vocabulary, cultural elements, and syntax. In translating Bradbury’s work into other languages, several types of transformations are necessary. This essay will discuss some of the important aspects of the translation of Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit ” Some of these aspects include metaphorical adaptation, scientific and cosmic word transliteration, cultural realia, syntax, and neologisms.
One of the stylistic features of Bradbury’s work is the extensive use of metaphor. In Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit” metaphorical language can be seen as a significant stylistic device. In the novel, metaphorical language can be found in fire, which is not only a physical concept but also a metaphor for several ideas. Fire can be seen as a metaphor for destruction, power, and rebirth.
