Abstract

This study examines the evolution of organizational and economic mechanisms within the tourism industry, focusing on the transformative role of digital convergence and environmental sustainability. As the sector faces rapid development and shifting global macroeconomic dynamics, traditional sectoral management approaches are increasingly being replaced by integrated, network-based governance models. Through a systems analysis and a systematic literature review of scholarly research from 2010 to 2021, this study explores how the integration of intelligent technologies—including artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and big data—enables destinations to function as complex, interconnected ecosystems. The research findings demonstrate that the effective implementation of these technologies facilitates a transition toward "smart destinations," optimizing resource management, enhancing service personalization, and fostering stakeholder collaboration through value co-creation. However, the study identifies significant challenges to this transition, including the digital divide, data privacy and cybersecurity risks, and the need for robust ethical frameworks to govern algorithmic decision-making. Emphasizing a multi-stakeholder approach, the paper argues that long-term competitiveness and resilience in the tourism sector depend on balancing disruptive technological innovation with social responsibility and environmental compliance. By synthesizing evidence on circular economy principles and advanced analytical tools, the study provides a theoretical framework for developing adaptive, sustainable business models that reconcile economic profitability with global sustainability goals.
