Abstract

This article examines various aspects of the image of Mirzo Ulugh Beg, an outstanding scholar and statesman of the Timurid period, as reflected in tazkiras and historical works. Particular attention is paid to the representations of Ulugh Beg found in “Majolis un-nafois” by Alisher Navoi and “Tazkirat ush-shuaro” by Davlatshah Samarqandi, as well as to the information presented in the works of such historians as Khwandamir, Sharaf al-Din Ali Yazdi. The study demonstrates that these sources present Ulugh Beg from different methodological perspectives. In tazkira literature, he is primarily portrayed as a patron of science and culture, whereas in historical works he appears as a political figure actively involved in the socio-political processes of his time.
