Abstract

The rapid growth of digital communication has transformed the way people express emotions in online environments. Social media platforms, discussion forums, and news websites have become important spaces for public interaction, where users frequently employ various linguistic and non-linguistic means to convey their attitudes and emotions. This study investigates emotional expressions in English and Uzbek online comments and examines similarities and differences in their usage. A corpus of 1,000 comments collected from social networking sites and online news platforms was analyzed using comparative and descriptive methods. The findings reveal that both English and Uzbek users actively employ emotive vocabulary, emojis, punctuation marks, and capitalization to express emotions. However, Uzbek users tend to rely more on culturally specific expressions and intensifiers, while English users demonstrate a higher frequency of abbreviations and emoji combinations. The study contributes to the field of Internet linguistics by highlighting the role of emotional expression in digital discourse.
