Abstract

“The Diamond as Big as the Ritz” is a classic piece of social satire. In this novella Fitzgerald mocks his society by exaggerating certain aspects of American culture, particularly obsession with wealth. With the help of antagonists’ point of view the author demonstrates that extreme wealth often leads to immoral behavior. In the name of wealth, some men are prepared to sin and commit horrific crimes without thinking about consequences.
