The traditional methods of communicating public policies have been found to be limited in modern day application. This is because of the ever changing and dynamic nature of human and social interactions. As should be expected, public policy is required to travel fast and far within split seconds since that is the means of achieving public awareness and participation in governmental affairs. With a weakened and inadequate method, these policies of government cannot achieve their intended results. This problem necessitated the review of public communication practices all over the world; and in search of solutions, the social media that was previously meant for private interactions found crucial relevance in the dissemination of public policies and programs. This paper examines the growing successes of social media applications in the communication of public policies; and how it has progressed over the period of use, with the view or anticipation of understudying its weaknesses or limitations and proposing relevant performance evaluation parameters that can enhance increased efficiency and effectiveness in its use. Thus, the evaluation of the performance profile of existing social media platforms in respect of public policy communication has indicated some voids that the deployment of the propositions of this paper can address. These proposed measures for increasing the efficiency of social media platforms as projected in this study if implemented has the capacity to improve platform effectiveness based on the insights they provide for the policymakers new projects.
