The Lexical Composition of K. Karimov’s Novel “Agabiy” From The Historical Perspective

The lexical composition of the Karakalpak language provides a window into the historical and cultural evolution of the Karakalpak people. Historical linguistic analysis has been crucial in understanding how language reflects social and cultural transformations over time. K. Karimov’s novel "Agabiy" offers a rich source for examining the Karakalpak lexicon. This novel, a historical narrative, features a variety of lexical layers influenced by the Karakalpak people’s interactions with Turkic, Arabic, Persian, and Russian cultures, revealing the deep historical ties of the region. While previous studies on Karakalpak lexicon have addressed kinship terms and dialectal variations, there is limited research on the lexical composition within literary works, particularly historical novels like "Agabiy." This study aims to conduct a historical-linguistic analysis of the vocabulary used in "Agabiy," focusing on its thematic categorization and how it represents various aspects of Karakalpak society, including kinship, administration, military affairs, and everyday life. The analysis reveals a diverse lexicon encompassing common Turkic words, archaic terms, and borrowings from Arabic, Persian, and Russian, offering insights into the social, political, and cultural structures of the time. The novel also preserves numerous specialized terms, many of which are now considered obsolete in modern Karakalpak. The study is the first comprehensive linguistic analysis of "Agabiy," categorizing its vocabulary into thematic groups and analyzing their historical context, thus filling a significant gap in the literature on Karakalpak linguistic heritage. The findings highlight the novel’s role as a linguistic and historical document, providing valuable insights for both linguistic scholars and historians studying the evolution of the Karakalpak language and culture. Further research could expand on the sociolinguistic implications of historical lexicons in other literary texts.
