Measurement and Analysis of the Level of Intra-Industry Trade in Agricultural Products between Uzbekistan and China

Based on trade data for 2024 provided by the UN Comtrade database, this paper employs the Grubel-Lloyd Index to systematically measure and analyze the level of intra-industry trade in agricultural products between China and Uzbekistan. The purpose of the study is to explain the structure and theoretical perspectives of agricultural trade between the two countries. This paper argues that the agricultural trade cooperation between China and Uzbekistan has currently entered a vital transitional period, which is in a transformation period from the traditional complementary condition to more integrated level of relationship. In the years to come, both sides should centre on the consideration of the trade prospect of intra-industrial trade of deep-processed agricultural products, while consolidating trade in bulk commodities like cotton. By strengthening mutual recognition of standards, investing in industrial chains, and enhancing technological cooperation, they can propel bilateral agricultural economic and trade relations to a higher level of development.
