Roles of Guidance and Counselling in Addressing the Problem of Suicide and Suicidal Ideation in the Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria

This paper examines the roles of guidance and counselling in addressing the problem of suicide and suicidal ideation in the Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria The paper employed the use of secondary data which were collected from both online and print publications. The paper identified early identification and intervention, providing emotional and psychological support crisis, counselling and suicide prevention, mental health education and awareness campaigns, building resilience and coping skills, peer support and referral systems; follow-up and monitoring and staff and faculty sensitization as the roles of guidance and counselling in addressing the problem of suicide and suicidal ideation in the Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria
