An Assessment of the Contribution of National Open University of Nigeria to Social-Economic Development in Nigeria

This study explore the contributions of National Open University to the socio-economic of Nigeria. The paper depend on secondary data. The secondary data were collected from online and print resources. The paper concluded that manpower production, provision to more access to higher education, research development, community service provision and extension of higher education to correctional facilities are the contributions of National Open University to the socio-economic of Nigeria. Based on this finding, the study recommends increment in the budgetary allocation to the institutions. The private and international organizations should also fund the institutions in the area of research grant and development of infrastructure facilities.
