Abstract
In this article, the linguistic expression of the category of time in Uzbek and English, its meaning, and functional features in speech are studied using a comparative-analytical method. In the research process, the reflection of the concept of time through verb tenses, grammatical means, lexical units, and contextual expressions in two languages is analyzed. If in the Uzbek language the category of time is mainly expressed through verb tense forms and auxiliary words, then in the English language, along with tense forms, the categories of aspect and duration occupy an important place. Also, interlingual differences and similarities are highlighted from the point of view of the communicative function of time in speech, its pragmatic meaning, and its role in discourse. The research results have important scientific and practical significance in comparative linguistics, translation studies, and the methodology of teaching foreign languages.
