Abstract

This study examines youth development in the Kolo Creek region of Bayelsa State, focusing on the role of Shell's corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts within the oil and gas sector. Despite the significant potential of youth as a national resource, the local youths in Kolo Creek have yet to benefit from these development programs. The research, employing qualitative methods and literature analysis, identifies key obstacles, perspectives, and strategies that affect youth development in the region. Findings reveal that prioritizing livelihood and regulatory approaches in the oil and gas sector can help mitigate conflicts between local communities and oil companies. The study recommends that Shell adopt ethical CSR initiatives focused on youth development, which would benefit the business, community, and government.
